Furniture is a term used in letterpress printing, which refers to the low-height pieces of wood or metal that block out white space in a composition. Movable type is laid out and set in a chase, which must be packed out with furniture before it can be printed with.

Lacuna was designed as an experiment, without using references or having a pre-conceived idea. Unintentional inspirations can be observed in the sign-painterly diagonal terminals, and the diamond tittle on the ‘i’, as preferred by William Morris.
